Your private guide and driver collect you from your El Alamein hotel in the early morning. The route west follows the Mediterranean coastal road before turning south toward the Nile Delta — a landscape shift that moves you from desert limestone to irrigated agricultural land within a single hour.
Arriving at the Giza Plateau mid-morning, you will spend dedicated time at each of the three pyramids: Khufu (the largest, at 138.5 metres), Khafre (distinguished by its intact limestone casing at the apex), and Menkaure (the smallest of the three, with its intact mortuary temple complex). Your Egyptologist guide provides structural, historical and dynastic context throughout.
The Great Sphinx — carved from a single limestone outcrop during the reign of Khafre, c.2500 BCE — stands adjacent to the Valley Temple, one of the best-preserved examples of Old Kingdom temple architecture in Egypt. Both are included in the site visit.
Lunch is served at a well-regarded local restaurant in Giza before the afternoon continues to the Papyrus Institute for a short demonstration of ancient paper-making, and then to the Egyptian Museum of Antiquities on Tahrir Square.
The museum's upper floor houses the complete Tutankhamun burial assemblage recovered from the Valley of the Kings in 1922 by Howard Carter — including the iconic gold funerary mask, two coffins, alabaster canopic jars, ceremonial shields, and personal jewellery that remained sealed in KV62 for over 3,300 years. The ground floor collection spans pre-dynastic artefacts through to the Graeco-Roman period.
Optional add-on: The Royal Mummies Hall at the National Museum of Egyptian Civilisation can be included for an additional USD 30, payable on the day. Please request this at the start of the journey so timing can be arranged.
Departure from Cairo approximately 17:30. Return to your El Alamein hotel by approximately 19:30.
