The Catacombs Kom el Shoqafa:
It was one of the Seven Wonders of the Medival World. The Catacombs were discovered by accident in 1900 and is considered the largest Roman burial site in Egypt which hosts a great combination of Pharaonic and Greco-Roman designs celebrating all traditions of the dead. Initially, the Catacombs were built in the 2nd century to be the burial site for one wealthy family, however, later on, usurpers used the catacombs as general burial sites.
Pompey Pillar:
On a rocky hilltop in the middle of the great city of Alexandria, lies the only known free-standing column to ever exist in Egypt and the largest monolith column ever erected. The Pillar is 25 meters high, made from one single piece of red granite quarried in Aswan, and is said to be built over the ruins of the Serapeum, a temple complex dedicated to the Greco-Egyptian god Serapis, adding a great historical depth to the site. The Pillar is a legendary element of power, and grandeur that conveys some dazzling facts about the Roman period in Egypt that, in turn, enlarged the city to new heights able to captivate the souls, minds, and eyes of visitors from all over the world.
Lunch will be served in a seafood restaurant, then continue to visit:
The New Library of Alexandria
Also Known as the Bibliotheca Alexandrina. The Library of Alexandria was reborn in October 2002 to reclaim the mantle of its ancient namesake. It is not just an extraordinarily beautiful building; it is also a vast complex where the arts, history, philosophy, and science come together. Moreover, the myriad activities it offers have made it a place for open discussion, dialogue, and understanding.
Then by the end of the day, we will transfer you back to your cruise in Alexandria Port.
